Poem: emotional rainy days

my love is the rain
fat cold sweet drops from the sky cracked open
horizontal, oblique, vertical tracks
falling, streaming, sliding down
distorting and obscuring the window
everything is grey and wet,
the dips become puddles
and the puddle becomes a lake
and the flat is coated with a thin sheen of liquid
I can walk on water
soaked-through shirt,
hair plastered to head,
eyes squint and flicker against
the invading drops
my love is the rain
invading every corner, every surface
and leaving nothing unwashed
in a soft-edged world of grey
and cold
and splash.
